The Phase Converter
Manufacturer Directory
How to Select the Right
Phase Converter
When selecting your phase
converter, one of the most
important decisions is what
manufacturer you use. If you
use one of the top two on
our manufacturer review list,
they will guide you though
the whole process from
insuring that you have the
right converter for the job, the correct size,
and any installation
questions you may have. It is
also helpful information to
know the different types of
phase converters that are on the
market. We have different
articles on each type
of phase converter listed at the
bottom of this page that
will help
give you a basic knowledge
for different application
needs.
Some of
the information you will
need is as follows:
- Type of
equipment and the brand and
model, if you know it.
- HP of main motor and
HP of any other motors
you may be using. Also,
if you have any
equipment that may be
hard to start.
- AMP requirement of
motors.
- Number of machines
requiring three-phase
power and information
about each one.
Also, your supplier
should ask detailed
questions about your
applications. A properly
sized and right type of
phase converter will perform
it functions for years.
It
will be service free and
won't compromise the
performance of the
equipment load. Ninety percent
of problems with phase
converters are due to the
fact that they are not the
right size for the
application. Rotary-phase
converters are usually sized
larger than the power
needed. A rotary phase
converter with an active
generator will most likely
be more reliable than any
other technology available.
You should
also check on the following:
- Is the phase
converter available with
automatic controls?
- What is the noise
level of the phase
converter in decibels?
- What happens if this
phase converter will not
do its job?
- Can I get credit
towards a replacement?
- What is your
warranty?
- How long has the company
been in business?
- A list of customers
that have used their
phase converters.
We recommend that you ask
these questions before
placing an order and reject
any phase converter supplier
that cannot respond to your
questions with professional
answers. Also, you should
feel confident with the
company you decide to use.
The following chart compares
each manufacturer based on a phase
converter for a
10HP motor. We rated each
company with a one to five
star rating, five stars being the highest
and one star the
lowest.
*Compared models that use active generators
and found that they are higher
quality - this rating is not
for lesser quality converters
using electric motors.
Also, models rated on the materials
used to manufacturer the
phase converters.
