The Phase Converter
Manufacturer Directory
Manufacturer Reviews
The Phase Converter Review
Directory has put together a
review of phase converter
manufacturers. We picked
these manufacturers because
we felt they were
some of the best in the
industry. We rated them on
product quality, product
types, warranties, technical
support and customer
service.
In our evaluation of phase
converters, a true three-phase
rotary converter scored the
highest. These converters
have a three-phase generator and
power factor correction. In
our research, we found many
companies market their
products as rotary-phase
converters; but in reality,
the converters were control boxes
(static converters) with an
electric motor. These
products generally do not produce true
balanced three-phase power.
They have unbalance power,
which, in turn, can damage
or burn out your equipment.
It is very sad when we see
someone buy an inferior
phase converter, and it
burns out equipment that
costs them hundreds to
thousands of dollars.
In our research, most phase
converter manufacturers
products are examples
of using a static converter
with an electric motor.
Static-phase converters also
do not last as long as a
true rotary-phase converter,
which is why some companies
don't offer good warranty
protection. On the
other hand, we help identify
which manufacturers do use
the best technology which
includes a three phase
generator and outputs true
balanced three phase power.
In the phase converter
industry, the newest
technology is the digital-phase
converter. In our research,
they do provide a fairly
well
balanced three-phase load,
and they are very quiet. The
drawback on digital-phase
converters is
they work by taking a sine
wave and chopping it up,
which
produces somewhat of a
choppy synthesized three-phase
sine wave. In producing a
choppy synthesized sine
wave, the harmonic
distortion tends to be
greater. The sensitive,
complex electronic nature of
these converters can
experience burnout by power
surges and lightning
strikes. Because of
their electronic
sensitivity, their life span
will be much shorter
resulting in the
manufacturer offering
limited warranties. Also,
digital-phase converters
are more expensive to buy,
and the repairs can be costly
with a limited number of
repair locations. This can cause
extended and costly downtime
in the event of damage. In
our ratings, you will note
that one of the main digital
phase converters was rated
moderately in the quality of
their phase converters
because they only sell digital-phase
converters. Again, when you
look at the warranty time
covered on
their products, it is
generally only a
year.
One of the key components in
rating our manufacturers is
the warranties they offer on
their products. A good
warranty helps protect your
investment in your
equipment. ACE and TEMCo
scored high because of
excellent quality and solid
warranties to back their
products. Ace offers a
ten-year warranty, which is a
good indicator that their
products are long lasting
and built of quality
materials. When you
have a ten-year warranty from
a reputable company, it
gives you confidence that
your investment in your
phase converter was the
right decision. ACE and TEMCo are the only
companies
that sell true three phase
rotary converters. These
converters offer you balanced
three phase power, and you
don’t have to worry about
damaging or burning
out your expensive
equipment. In our
research, we find that most
companies' warranties also
reflect the quality of
the products they sell. We
believe that manufacturers
should at least offer a five-year guarantee
on their product lines, and we feel
that a company should be in
business for at least five
years before purchasing one
of their phase converters.
Ratings on the prices of the phase converters were
based on performance and
quality of the equipment. Most companies
and individuals are always
looking for the cheapest
prices for the best product. In our research, we
rated ACE and TEMCo the
highest, not because they
were the cheapest, but
because of what they had to
offer. Their phase
converters were quality
made, they offered
excellent warranties, and
their staff was
knowledgeable about what
type and size of phase converters would best work
for a particular application.
Their prices were also very
competitive for the quality
product that they offer.
Don’t
make the mistake of buying an
inferior phase converter to
save a few dollars, which can
cost you thousands of dollars in
repair bills and extended
downtime for your business,
not to mention the extra
stress and headaches it can
cause.
Product service and
technical support are another
key issue when rating our
manufacturers. We rated them
from the first call right up to the
final installation of their
products. In our findings, TEMCo and ACE
were both rated
in the excellent category
having quality products,
great warranties and their highly trained
staff and excellent customer
service.
We hope our service can help
you select the
right phase converter manufacturer
and eliminate
any confusion you may have
in solving your application
requirements. We
will continue to evaluate
new manufacturers and phase
converters.
The following chart compares
each manufacturer based on a phase
converter for a
10HP motor. We rated each
company with a one to five
star rating, five stars being the highest
and one star the
lowest.
*Compared models that use active generators
and found that they are higher
quality - this rating is not
for lesser quality converters
using electric motors.
Also, models rated on the materials
used to manufacturer the
phase converters.

Manufacturer
Review
page
gives more details on how
ratings are determined. In
our findings,
ACE
Phase Converters
rated the highest because
they manufacturer a true
three-phase converter. Their phase converters were
durable and manufactured
with high quality materials,
and their ten-year warranties
on their products were
outstanding. Pricing was
excellent comparably in the
market place. Great Phase Converter Articles
